Our Land for the Future Trust secures $300 million grant agreement

On July 21, 2025, the Government of Canada and the Our Land for the Future Trust signed a grant agreement to provide the Trust with $300 million in federal funds.

The Trust will use these funds to support Indigenous-led conservation initiatives across the Northwest Territories, allowing the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Territories to continue and strengthen their role as stewards of their traditional territories.

The Our Land for the Future Trust is the product of a remarkable agreement between 21 Indigenous Governments, the Government of Canada, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and private donors.

Sequoia Legal LLP partner Lorenzo Rose is proud to have represented our client, the North Slave Métis Alliance, in the negotiations leading to the creation of the Our Land for the Future Trust.

Sequoia Legal LLP congratulates the Our Land for the Future Trust and all 21 signatory Indigenous Governments on this momentous achievement!
